Update on the MSSM Haiti 16th Oct 2024

MSS and HNP have continued to conduct sustained joint operations targeting key gang leaders and their members in Port -Au-Prince and Artibonite departments, in keeping with our mission mandate.

Over the period Saturday 12th to Monday 14 October 2024, MSS and HNP personnel conducted joint operations in the Torsél area in Western Department, an area reportedly controlled by the notorious Karze Barye gang lead by the wanted criminal Vitelhomme Innocent.

The joint security team conducted a series of operations  to include raiding Vitelhomme’s home base where he was forced to hastily flee leaving behind some of his cherished personal effects. A number of fatalities were recorded with other identified gang members ( including Vitelhomme's  second in command, Deshommes)  escaping with life threatening injuries.

During the operation, the following assortment of weapons and some HNP items were recovered:

- Fifteen (15) firearms: 11 long-held and 4 short-held

- 2 tablets, 2 cell phones

- Identity cards belonging to several local Haitian citizens

- 28 hand-held telecommunication radios

- 2 Motorola telecommunication radios (PNH property)

- 2 digital surveillance cameras, 1 camera decoder system

- 9 Motorola radio communication adapters

- 1,580 12-gauge cartridges, 1,100 22-gauge cartridges

- 1 VIZUA brand FPV drone

- 1 SAPL 12-gauge pistol (serial 040027)

- 1 9mm pistolet (serial AB 992208)

- 1 unmarked .22 caliber revolver

- 1 compressed AR rifle (Cheridan model 392PA)

- 1 Springfield rifle (serial number 859 458)

- 1 unmarked .22 caliber rifle (serial 4070)

- 1 Maussberg US 02670 12-gauge shotgun

- 1 Ruger brand 22-gauge fuse (serial 11392812)

- 1 Taurus PA 010275 12-gauge rifle (PNH property)

- 1 M.1 rifle (serial 4365247)

- 1 Maussberg MAVERICK model rifle (serial 962E)

- 1 Maussberg 12-gauge rifle with no serial number or markings

- 1 Savage 12-gauge cable rifle (serial 168368E)

Of particular note is that during the conduct of this sting operation, the joint forces did not register any casualties. Unfortunately, a MaxxPro, MRAP vehicle assigned to the MSS developed some mechanical problems and despite the quick intervention by our skilled mechanics during a firefight, the vehicle could not be recovered at that time.

We wish to once again reaffirm our commitment to the Haitian people and send this clear message to those gang members  focused on committing heinous acts against innocent Haitians, that they should lay down their weapons and surrender to the justice of the Haitian state, if not, the joint forces will be relentless in our pursuit of them and we will remove them from their enclaves to face the rule of law.

The MSS in support of the HNP is determined and committed to dislodge and dismantle all criminal  groups in the country, especially in Port Au Prince and the wider Western and Artibonite departments. Our operations will not end any time soon.

As the MSS, we affirm and reiterate the strong and cordial collaboration between the DG HNP Normil Rameau and MSS Force Commander SAIG Godfrey Otunge and their men and women under command.

We wish to thank our joint HNP and MSS teams that have sustained these security operations in behalf of the Haitian people, so far and for the months yet to come.

We are committed to the Haitian nation and her people and we ask for your support as we continue our joint operations.  We are committed for Haiti to start living again.
